About Me

My name is Harriet Hymas, I'm a sociable and kind-hearted person who is very passionate about working within the childcare industry. I have a lot of willingness to learn new things whilst also having a lot of enthusiasm to work. I'm currently just finished my second year of learning level 3 early years and education in childcare at college. I've had a variety of experiences in 3 different nurseries over the years including working at Cundall Manor school, Jack and Jills Nursery and Hummingbirds Nursery. I have also done lots of babysitting and nannying for a variety of families with children who age from 1 up to 13. On top of this I also do housekeeping for a local pub on weekends and have worked in the hospitality industry since I was 13. I hold a clear DBS and can drive.

My Experience

I'm currently a student training for my Level 3 childcare and early years qualification, due to my course being over two years. As part of my college placement, I have worked at both Jack and Jills Nursery and Cundall Manor school which has helped build on my experience, knowledge and skills massively.

I began working at Cundall Manor School in October 2023 and am still there currently. My role as a student Practitioner is to ensure that the children are kept safe and happy whilst they're both at home and in the setting.
We focus on the importance of children's learning so we incorporate all areas of development into activities, play and observations. This helps give us an idea of what we could do to make the child learn to the best of their ability. My role is to provide children with new opportunities to learn, socialise and gain new experiences by encouraging them to take risks that will help make them become more confident both inside and outside of the setting.

I was also a student at Jack and Jill’s for nearly a year. I worked at Jack and Jills from September 2022 till October 2023. My role was a nursery assistant within the setting, I worked with all age children ranging from working with the babies whilst also working alongside the after-school children to. My role consisted of me working alongside other practitioners in helping to make sure the children get the best possible outcome from nursery by helping ensure they feel safe and happy. Each day we set up different activities which helped build on the children's development, we also interacted a lot with parents both electronically and in person to help provide them with advice, strategies, and ways to build on their child's learning, knowledge and skills. We encouraged independence whilst also doing a lot of 1;1 work and teamwork. Within that time, we would do things such as reading stories, Nap times, encouraging the children to use their knife and forks at mealtimes, and many different activities that helped encourage the children within the setting to become independent.

Work Experience:
Hummingbirds Nursery : Sowerby, North Yorkshire
During the summer of June 2021, I began working at Hummingbirds nursery my role there was being a nursery assistant. My position consisted of undertaking/learning a variety of new tasks. because I was only 15 when I worked there and didn't have much experience, so therefore I did a lot of learning and training on the job which built on my knowledge and skills tremendously in only a short period of time. At Hummingbirds everyone got on well and we worked well alongside one another as a team. This involved us sharing jobs out and working with one another depending on what we were doing. We went on lots of trips out which made it really memorable for the children as it helped build on their knowledge and understanding of the world whilst also building on other aspects of their learning in many different ways which is what made it such a unique and loveable nursery for the children due to it only being a small local nursery.

Babysitting : Mr & Mrs ….. , North Yorkshire (References available upon request)
In March of 2021, I began babysitting a family of four, who had two children aged 6 and 8. I did and still do look after them in the holidays and some nights. I have really enjoyed this as I've been able to use different roles of responsibility e.g., cooking meals, taking them on walks, creating activities and being trustworthy e.g., locking doors, making sure they cross the road safely and lots more.

Nannying : Mr & Mrs… North Yorkshire. (References available upon request)
In June 2023, I nannied for a family who had three children who were, 2,4 and 7 years old. These children loved being outside, so we spent a lot of time outside on walks, in the garden. I also created a variety of different fun activities for them which allowed them to explore and get a better understanding of the world by using just their 5 senses. We did a lot of messy play that involved water, play dough and much more. As well as going on bike rides, playing tennis and so much more. With the 2-year-old being younger and still having naps etc. I just adapted the day around his general routine, which is what the family really appreciated, as I respected the children's routines to help make the children be the happiest they could. Due to them feeling more settled and secure with their parents being away.

Babysitting : Numerous Farmiles
On top of all this I have babysat and nannied for multiple different families in the local area, whether that being on an evening, daytime or consistently for a couple of years now. These families all have different children who range between the ages of 1 and 13 years old. I particularly love the fact of how different in age some of the children are as I find it rewarding to see all the children reach their own milestones and accomplishments through the years and to see how far they have come with their learning and confidence within themselves. If you would like to see any references feel free to ask.

Housekeeping : Plum & Partridge, Husthwaite, North Yorkshire
In April 2023 I began housekeeping for the Plum and Partridge at Hustwaite. I work most weekends and some nights to help gain more experience, my role ensures that customers get the best satisfaction from their hotel room by keeping the rooms to the best standard. This is due to paying attention to detail when cleaning both the rooms and bathrooms for it to look phenomenal
