My Summary

My Experience

In the summer of 2019, I worked as an au pair in Madrid. I lived and worked with a family with one 9-year old children. I crafted daily schedules and focused on an individual caring relationship with the child I supervised. Every day, we did homework, and engaged in new, fun activities, including going swimming, learning how to ride a bike, and arts and crafts.

The following summer, I worked as a Lead Instructor for White Pine Programs, an outdoor summer camp. In this role, I organized engaging activities tailored to adolescents, ranging from immersive naturalist explorations to acquisition of essential outdoor skills such as fire building. I adapted planned activities for unexpected circumstances, such as changing weather or group dynamics. Simultaneously, I cultivated meaningful connections with each of my 15 students, taking the time to understand their unique interests in the outdoors. Notably, my commitment to empowerment in the outdoors extended to fostering confidence among female students, as there were only three in the group. I encouraged them to participate confidentially and facilitated their leadership within the group.

Recently, I volunteered as a mentor for Science Club for Girls. My work leading after-school science activities for young girls and gender non-conforming youth underscored my commitment to empowering youth in diverse educational settings. Collaborating with my co-mentor, I facilitated enriching experiences that promoted scientific curiosity. I learned how to manage a classroom and adjust plans in response to arising issues, such as needing to occasionally resort to remote learning.

Last year, I worked as a Clinical Assistant in the emergency department at Boston Children's Hospital. At the Hospital, I also developed individualized relationships with children and teenagers while fostering a playful and supportive environment in a medical setting. I worked regularly with young adults who were in the emergency department awaiting placement in psychiatric facilities. I would spend my down time with them, playing games and talking, aiming to provide a sense of comfort and support during what was often an uncertain period for them. During this time I also grew proficient in emergency first aid and care. I work calmly and professionally during emergency situations and can respond appropriately until a higher level of care arrives.

My Qualifications

I am Emergency First Aid trained and certified in Scotland, including adult and child CPR and AED use. I am also a certificated emergency medical technician in the United States and have experience working in emergency situations with children.
