I am a friendly and capable Oxford-educated tutor. I enjoy working with young people to help them get the most out of their abilities in a supportive, structured and enjoyable way.
As an Oxford scholar and prize-winner in English Literature, I have excellent subject knowledge, with particular interest in poetry and drama, and a strong grounding in Shakespeare. I love close reading, and would be happy to help your child hone their skills in finding and naming techniques that writers use to create effects.
I am familiar with the syllabus requirements of the major exam boards. I would be pleased to tutor any age up to University students in English Literature. I can also offer Oxbridge interview technique, help with Oxbridge English Literature Admissions Tests (ELAT), and am happy to provide feedback on essays.
As a teacher I am enthusiastic and patient. I enjoy talking about language and literature with young people, finding out what they think and feel about the topic, and finding points of interest for them in texts they might not otherwise enjoy. I look forward to helping your child find their next level, in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
My Experience
For five years I have been a literacy coach, working with adults who cannot read. This involves meeting 1-1 with vulnerable adults and essentially teaching them to read from scratch using a phonics system. I have also worked and volunteered for the literacy charity First Story, where I participated in creative writing workshops with young teenagers and helped to shape and assess their work.
