My Experience

I have worked with children since my early teens, beginning with babysitting for family members and local families, as well as volunteering with children's arts organisations. I have worked as a nanny since 2020, caring for children aged between four months and thirteen years old, in both short and long term capacities; I have taken on various roles, from school runs and after-school care with older children, to parents' help and sole charge with infants and toddlers. For children of all ages, I have often been responsible for preparing and supervising meals. Through research and experience, I have familiarised myself with the weaning process, and when working with babies with severe allergies I compiled recipes which were suited to their dietary restrictions while still meeting their needs at different stages of the introduction to solids. With older children, I have found that involving them in preparation and reframing mealtimes in such a way that they feel in control helps enormously if they struggle with food and structure. With school-aged children I am used to supervising and providing various degrees of support with homework - I have worked with children who lacked confidence in their abilities or had difficulty concentrating and understand the importance of continual encouragement to empower them and keep the work as enjoyable as possible. Having studied French for several years and been lucky enough to live and study abroad, I have been well placed to work with with multi-lingual families in the past. This has involved roles where I spoke exclusively French with children, but also one with a family whose children understood some English but did not yet have a strong grasp speaking it - their parents wanted them to have greater exposure, so I spoke to them mainly in English while they responded in French. By the end of my time with the family, the older of the children, who was five, had begun to respond to me more in English. Even with mono-lingual families, I am always delighted to share knowledge of another language, and have taught some French to children before.

I have worked with children since I was a teenager and as a nanny since 2020. I have had first aid training through an agency and of my own volition undertaken some courses in Montessori
