About Me

I am offering Independent SEND services as Lisa P Learning from September 1st 2024.
These include:

Specialist Tutoring- I am a level 7 dyslexia tutor (AMBDA). I can offer 1:1 sessions for children with any type of SEND, in school, funded by TIG or pupil premium. I am accredited, insured, DBS checked and am listed on the PATOSS specialist tutor index.

I can offer tutoring after school or on Saturdays. I am very happy for you to share my details with parents of children with SEND should this be appropriate.

My Amazing Brain- These sessions are to help build self-awareness, to work on a personal All About Me project, to help understand any identified or diagnosed neurodiversity (Year 5 upwards).

SEND Consultancy- for parents.

I am passionate about working with children and young people who have additional needs which impact their development and learning. I am experienced at working with neurodivergent youngsters who are autistic, dyslexic, dyscalculic, have ADHD, speech and language needs, DCD (developmental co-ordination disorder/dyspraxia) or who have mental health needs such as anxiety and emotional based school avoidance (EBSA).

I believe in creating enjoyable, multi-sensory lessons, pitched at the correct level for the child’s current understanding, utlising their interests. With this approach I aim to build confidence, self-esteem, enjoyment and progress in basic English and Maths skills.

My Experience

I began as a primary teacher in 1992. I have taught KS1, KS2 and early KS3 children from 5-13 years old. English was my specialist subject.

I first became a SENCO in 2004 and from then on specialised in teaching children with additional learning needs.

In 2008 I first joined East Sussex County Council as a learning support teacher.
I gained my Level 7 dyslexia teacher qualification AMBDA in 2011 from Sussex University and the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) PG Diploma
During this time, I worked part time as a mainstream school SENCO and part time as a specialist teacher for ESCC.

In 2013 I first worked in an Independent prep school as a SENCO for pre-prep and a maths Learning Support teacher.

In 2015 I returned to ESCC as a specialist teacher and gained a qualification in working with autistic children from Birmingham University. PG Cert.

In 2017 I became Head of Learning Support at an Independent prep school.

In 2020 I once again returned to ESCC as a SEND adviser with CLASS.
