About Me
Hi, my name is Debbie and in September 2024 I am studying Learning Disability Nursing and Social Work at Sheffield Hallam University. I am unable to give any specifics on when I require childcare, and this will change as the year goes on due to placements and other activities. However, the girls are in full time school, so childcare will be needed for things like pick up and raking care of the girls for a few hours after school and feeding them.
I am a disabled, Autistic individual with ADHD. I'm anxious as my children are my precious gems and this is the first time I have looked for a childminder/babysitter, so please bare with me.
I have a childcare funding grant approved of and ready to be used as of September 2024.
My Requirements
I have 2 children; 4 and 11. They are both Autistic, with eldest being ADHD as well and youngest has learning disabilities. They require someone with good understanding of ASD/ADHD, learning disabilities, SEND and who can use Makaton.
My eldest has an EHCP and is beginning comp in September.
My youngest is beginning Reception and has a SEN plan and has a disabled pram/wheelchair due to lack of danger awareness, cortical visual impairment and flat feet/hypermobility. She also has Asthma and sleep apeana.
I'd prefer someone who can drive, and preferably non-smoker. And someone who can do First-Aid and has experience and knowledge about ASD, ADHD, and Learning Disabilities. The carer/minder should be willing to do Makaton, if not already know Makaton (my 4 year old communicates with Makaton around 80% of the time).
It is essential the care/minder is kind, caring, patient, trustworthy, and empathic. My children experience the world differently, and need a carer who provides a safe and open space to allow them to explore the world and express their feelings and thoughts.
My eldest is 11, which means she is approaching a very tender and sensitive stage of her life. It is essential she has a understanding, empathic person who gives her space and a caring ear. She experiences meltdowns and sensory overload, which requires someone who can do breathing work with her and healthy anger expressions, e.g. throwing a ball at a wall, hitting a punch bag, screaming into a pillow, etc.
My 4 year old has multiple disabilities, including learning disabilities. This means she requires constant supervision and support. Such as toileting (she's still in nappies but slowly gaining understanding of the toilet and uses it here and there when she needs a wee), communication difficulties (mostly making noises to gain attention and unable to pronounce words) and will not sleep alone/has difficulty getting to sleep due to sleep sensory issues.
It is vital for the carer/minder to meet the girls with mummy/myself (safe space) to begin building a trusting relationship before proving their role as a carer/minder. This can be little intervals and will be paid an agreed amount
