My Summary
About Me
Hi! My name is Beth, I’m 28 and I am moving from Brighton to Edinburgh. I am extremely passionate about early years education and believe in as much child-led, imaginative, outdoors play as possible. I genuinely love the company of children which is reflected in the many years of working as an Early Years Educator, Nanny and Librarian at a secondary school. Through all of these jobs, I have had the privilege of being part of some children’s lives from 2 years old to 15 years old (was very emotional to leave!) I am also really passionate about the power of books and what that can do for early years development. I am really excited to meet a new family to build trust and bond with so feel free to drop me a message if you feel I would be a good fit for your little ones!
My Experience
I have been an Early Years Educator at Pumpkin Patch Nursery on and off for 12 years, I have been a Nanny and Babysitter for 12 years and have worked in a secondary school as a Librarian for the last 3 years. Pumpkin Patch Nursery follows the Reggio Emilia Approach which is a self-guided curriculum, allowing children to express themselves in their own way as they develop their interests and personalities. This entails focusing on the “languages of children” which could include painting, drawing, sculpting or exploring; anything that can ignite their imaginations and refine their motor skills. Currently I am involved in a caterpillar project with the children after they were inspired after reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Michael Rosen. This has led to us building a “big hotel” in the nursery’s garden and after they discovered that caterpillars ate plants and flowers as well, building a giant sunflower out of sunflower seeds, felt and coloured paint of the children’s choosing. I feel like this approach is such a fun and exciting way to nurture children’s development and would be happy to implement it if you felt it was the right fit for your family. I have also been a Nanny to multiple families, all of which I have the privilege of still being a part of their lives and who I treasure (I am definitely a spoiler on birthdays!). Through both of these jobs I have extensive experience working with newborns and SEN children, as well as being first aid trained and holding a DBS.
My Qualifications
I am first aid trained and have a DBS. I also have extensive experience with children with a variety of needs and experiences.
My Availability
I would love to work 35-40 hours a week Monday-Friday in whichever form worked best for your family. I will be doing a short course at the university on Wednesdays at 6:30 and Tuesdays at 5:30 so I won’t be available after those times. I will also be available for weekend babysitting subject to availability!
