About Me
I would love to join a family as not just a nanny but an older sister. I have many siblings and have also taught younger children English in Cairo so I have learnt to not just be patient but to understand them.
Not only am I responsible and caring, and I have tons of energy. I love to plan games with children and I strongly believe they should have a limited screen time and spend time doing other things, i.e. reading (I will read to them/help them read), prepping food, go on picnics/fun day out etc.
I think it would be amazing to be a part of a family and create fun, loving environment for your child. Thank you for considering me!
Best,
Aliyah
My Experience
Honestly, the most educational experiences I’ve had with children are through my siblings, but they have been a handful since there are 3 of them younger than me. Although they could be overwhelming and since when I was taking care of 12 my brother and 15-year-old sister I was also quite young myself I did not have the patience. But as I grew and my 5-year-old sister was born I grew patient, and I learnt how to act around kids and how to raise a child to the best they can be. I could not be prouder of how my little sister thinks and acts to situations, maybe it’s because all her siblings are quite older than her, but so many times when we’re on a bus she tells me “let’s stand up Aliyah, and let someone else sit down” or when we’re at home and I’m sneaking a cookie out one of my siblings snacks she tells me “we might hurt their feelings, let’s ask first”. I am extremely proud of her, and I would love in helping raise other children to also think like this.
I had taught English to children aged 5-15 in a local mosque while I was in Cairo, which also helped with my patience, though by this age I was quite patient regardless. Managing and teaching kids of these ages required me to have a one to one moment with all of them, because they were all at different learning levels. It also taught me how to communicate clearly with children, how to say certain words and sentences so it was more clearly. It wasn’t just the sentences it was also teaching them through stuff they enjoyed to make sure they focused. For example, British football or football in general was really popular in Egypt, so one the boys I taught him sentences through talking about football.
Teaching these children also made me become more adaptable. Through this role I adjusted my teaching methods to suit different age groups and learning styles. Similar to how I would need to adapt my care for children at different stages of development.
Also, I learned a lot about responsibility. Being in charge of the well-being and learning of a group of kids taught me how to take responsibility seriously, just as I would be responsible for a child’s care as a nanny.
Lastly, this experience helped me develop cultural sensitivity. Working in a local masjid in Cairo allowed me to gain an understanding and respect for different cultures, which is important when caring for children from diverse backgrounds.
