My Summary
About Me
I'm Matthew - a 3rd year university student at St Andrews. I have always been academically focused, and I normally balance out my time studying with long walks, podcasts and books. I much prefer cosy nights with my friends to loud nights out, and I often find comfort in quietly cleaning or doing the washing up after a busy day.
My Experience
I have always been a high achiever academically - at GCSE level, I got 12 GCSEs, with a singular 7 (A) being my lowest grade. With 9s (A**s) in Maths and Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and French, Latin, and Greek, 8s in English Literature and Language (and more), I found that the best way for me to learn was by teaching others, so I became known for lending my support to fellow students.
I did the IB, in which I scored 43, getting 7s (A*s) in Latin HL, Greek SL, Philosophy SL and Physics HL, and 6s (As) in AA Maths HL and English SL, and for this I also helped tutor my peers, and often helped those struggling with tidying up their coursework.
Beyond the strictly academic, I also helped my peers with their university applications, going over their personal statements and helping them with extra application work at the clearing stage. Additionally, I supported a Polish student in her Master's Thesis for Art, helping her get used to long academic writing in another language, leading her to attain her dream degree.
At home, I have two younger sisters whom I have been regularly put in charge of looking after while my mother is working, and at school I was a peer mentor, connected with younger students to check-up on them and support them through a boarding school environment.
My Qualifications
12 GCSEs (8x 9s, 3x 8s, 7), IB Diploma (43 - 4x 7s, 2x 6s, 3 Core)
Classics MA (in progress, to graduate 2026) (Dean's List 2022-3, 2023-4)
My Availability
As a student, I have good flexibility with my availability, only having 5 hours of teaching a week - however, with coursework deadlines throughout the year, I may be busier at some times rather than others, especially depending on factors like if I'll be able to study whilst babysitting.
