My Summary
About Me
I am a 19 year old that, grew up in East London, where the mix of cultures and languages around me really shaped who I am. As a child, I was always drawn to history and geography, because they allowed me explore different parts of the world in my imagination. In my late teens, my family moved to Oxford which was a big change at such a pivotal point in my life—it was quieter than what I was used to, but exposed me to many different people and ways of life.
Currently, I’m studying Globalisation at the University of Brighton, which feels like the perfect fit for my interests. It’s given me a deeper understanding of how connected we all are and inspired me to think about how I can make a difference in the world. I’m not entirely sure where my path will lead, but I’m excited to see how I can use what I’ve learned to contribute to a more connected and fairer world.
My Experience
I was employed at Vibrant Minds Afterschool Club. I worked 15 hours a week (3 hours daily), where I worked with a team to provide childcare for 30 children between the ages of 4 and 11. My daily aim was to provide a safe space for children to share their thoughts and feelings while facilitating child-led play. As I undertook this role during 2021 I was responsible for setting up a COVID-safe environment before the children's arrival and ensuring that COVID measures were followed, such as reminding children to wash their hands upon entry and exit of the building. Twice a week, I organized arts and craft activities for the children, including designing their own superheroes and making Father’s Day cards.
I volunteered at a primary school in East London on numerous occasions where I worked with year 1 and year 3 classes (ages 5-8). During this role I would work with small groups of children, helping them with their in class work and ensuring that their books were presented neatly.
I have also previously worked full-time as a Kitchen Assistant in a boarding school which has equipped me with food safety knowledge and high levels of confidence in the kitchen. In this role, I would aid in the preparation of food for over 200 students and staff, memorising menu items, taking extra care for dishes that contained allergens.
My Qualifications
I’m currently studying at university, with A-levels as my highest completed qualification so far, which means I bring both a strong educational background and a caring approach to my work. I also have an enhanced DBS and have previous experience working with children which helped me develop a natural understanding on how to keep children safe and entertained.
