About Me

I grew up in London as an only child, but I was fortunate to have an Aupair who became part of our family. She has been such an important figure in my life that I was her maid of honor six years ago, and I now babysit her children regularly which is a very full circle moment! But having this experience has really solidified the importance of those extra people in your life particularly as a child being a warm and nurturing presence.

I attended primary school in the Kent countryside, which fostered my love for the outdoors. I believe it’s really important for children to spend time outside, playing sports or games, and I like to keep children away from screens as much as possible when they’re with me. I love animals too so any pets won’t be an issue and would actually be a bonus for me!

When looking after children I love to be really involved in making it a fun and enriching experience although I do tend to take a Child-Led slightly more Montessori approach to learning and play with younger children but I’m happy to work with parental preferences. With older children I really enjoy coordinating school work and topics with our trips and activities for example in my last family when the youngest who hated history was learning about the Romans we made mosaics together, took a trip to the local Roman villas after school and also made a Roman style dinner one night! This really helped her understand the topic and start to enjoy history as a whole at school, I think these kind of experiences can really help engage a child in their studies while still feeling fun and not too school like!

Currently, I’m taking a break from my studies at the London School of Economics, where I’m focusing on social and public policy with a specialization in international development. I’m preparing to spend a semester abroad at the University of Cape Town which means I have a lot of free time before I go in late February.

My Experience

I have varied experiences of working with children across all age groups from 2-13 having worked in one of the leading prep boarding schools and going to the LSE myself I have a strong academic background and I’m always keen to help support children’s learning and development I have ADHD and dyslexia myself so have first hand experience on how tough it can be as well as being a 1:1 for several children with SEND conditions when I worked in the boarding school.

I worked at Hatherop Castle from August 2021 to July 2022, supporting children aged 7-13 in the boarding house and assisting with their morning and evening routines, homework, and weekend activities. I also took on housekeeping duties and accompanied the children on trips. During the school day, I worked as a teaching assistant, helping with games, history, and English across all year groups. I provided one-on-one support in reading and maths for younger children in Years 1-4, and I managed my own group of children aged 2-3.5 in the nursery, where I supervised nap times, meals, and play activities. I also ran seasonal craft activities and sports at the Holiday Club for children aged 5-11.

From September 2022 to August 2024, I worked as an after-school nanny for two families, caring for children aged 5-13. My duties included school pickups, club drop-offs, homework assistance, meal preparation, housekeeping, and bedtime routines, as well as planning activities to keep the children engaged during weekends and holidays. These roles allowed me to build strong, trusting relationships with the children and families while gaining further experience in managing busy household routines.

I have also worked as a babysitter for many years since I was in sixth form and have continued this when I have the time! As well as working as a teacher in Zimbabwe at a free rural school for five months in 2023 this was such an amazing experience as we worked with limited resources, but it was an incredibly rewarding experience.

My Qualifications

I have a DBS which I’m just updating as it was last updated in 2023 as well as being certified in pediatric first aid and sports first aid.

I hold a level 1 qualification in Child development and a level 2 qualification in the Common Core Skills and Knowledge for childcare. On top of this I have completed courses on emotion coaching (how emotions develop in children, Social engagement, stress regulation, styles of managing emotion based behavior) and healthy eating for children (covering nutrition, food sensitivities, and practical guidance on fussy eating) from the London school of childcare studies.
