About Me
Hi there, I'm Laura, a qualified teacher with 14 years experience teaching all ages from Nursery right up to Year 6. I love teaching but, with 5 children of my own, it's time for a family-friendly change.
I'm looking forward to starting childminding in November 2024 from my newly renovated property in York (Moorgate). I have lots of ideas and energy and I love setting up invitations to play for children based on their interests.
Play is a big deal here! I have two large playrooms - one with bi-fold doors that lead outside onto an undercover area and then into a large garden. We will be spending lots of time outdoors in the mud kitchen, or on the obstacle course or swings, exploring in our nature area, picking fruit and vegetables from the veggie patch, or playing in the wooden house or on the pirate ship which has upper and lower decks complete with Jolly Roger flag! There is also a mini football pitch to play on, a basketball area, a large driveway for scooting and riding bikes and a beautiful 100 year old magnolia tree as the backdrop to it all.
All the food served is vegetarian and home-cooked. With a focus on seasonal fruits and vegetables (home grown where possible). Snacks are baked at home and ultra processed foods are avoided!
I offer a mixture of toys, some wooden - including Grimms, Grapat, Plan Toys and Glückskäfer to name a few. But we also have some popular plastic toys too all of which are regularly rotated to keep things interesting!
I currently offer: 8:00-14:30 or 8:00-16:30. I charge £6.50 an hour and this includes a home-cooked, healthy meal as well as a snack. I can offer pick-up or drop-off from OLQM school. I can offer ad hoc childcare and after-school care but please contact me directly for availability. Thanks for reading
My Experience
I have 14 years experience as a primary school teacher. I have taught all classes from Nursery up to Year 6. I've specialised in various things and done many training courses on, for example: Autism or Behaviour Management on the Value of Play or Teaching Literacy to name a few.
I have 9 years experience as a mum (I have 5 children).
