My Summary
About Me
I am a very creative person. I love challenges where children ask me to make something to influence their imagination. I love to draw and have often drawn many characters from movies and shows that children have asked me to do. I've also learned how to do face painting and henna.
I am a very patient person and try to understand how a child may be feeling if they are upset or overwhelmed. For example, if a child was feeling angry about something I would ask if they would like a few minutes to calm down and then talk to me. If they are still not calm I would use the blowing out the candle method to get them to calm down and offer a lot of cuddles and reassurance.
I believe that children mustn't be focused on screens for too long so I encourage screen breaks and offer other activities like going to the park or going on an imaginative adventure looking for fairies or treasure for example.
My Experience
Babysitting within the family: I would babysit on Fridays and weekends after school. Often I would look after my little cousin who is now 7 but I've looked after her since she was 4 years old. My responsibilities looking after her were to pick her up from school, help her complete school work, cook dinner and for some activities we would do drawing, arts and crafts or baking. I have also helped out my aunty with her newborn twins while she went to work. I would feed them bathe them when need and changed them.
Babysitting for outside the family: I've looked after a couple's two children. I began looking after them in 2021 soon after the covid restrictions had lifted. My role was to pick them up from school at 3:15 and take them to mine till their parents finished work at 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My role was also to provide snacks and activities for them to do. Their parents did not want them to watch a lot of television so I improvised a lot by teaching them how to play board games. I also did activities such as making paper dolls so the girl could make outfits for them and built many Lego cities for their boy to play with. To keep them more engaged I created a sticker chart to practice good listening. If they had done a task like cleaning up they would be rewarded with a sticker. After a row of 5 stickers, they could earn a prize that they requested for example a colouring book. The two children I babysat were 4 and 2 at the time and I stopped babysitting them when they were 7 and 4½ because they moved houses.
Tutor: I have tutored my little cousin who is currently 7. She had been struggling with Spelling so I helped to tutor her on the weekends for 4 weeks. Since her mum worked early hours of the morning I would arrive the night before and plan a day of learning games. I would create matching letters to the word and encourage her to read at least three books throughout the day. If we had gone to the park I would create a story for her and created fake problems where she had to spell a word for the character to continue the story. This was quite effective because she has now made so much improvement and gets praised for the spelling she practices on her own.
Volunteering: I volunteered at a children's playgroup called Oasis. I volunteered there from October 2022 to March 2023. Here I worked with children from the ages of 5- 12 from 3:45- 6 on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10- 4. My role was to create activities for the children to do and monitor them when they would go outside to play. Sometimes, I would help bake some recipes with the children for example cupcakes and I enjoyed the experience.
My Qualifications
I have verified basic first aid training and dbs check.
