About Me
I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential in one-on-one sessions. Through five years working in education, I've discovered that tutoring allows me to connect with students on a deeper level, enabling me to customise my teaching to fit their unique needs and learning styles.
I've worked with a variety of subjects and age groups, which helps me adapt my teaching methods to each student. This has included students with high SEN needs, sometimes struggling to access the curriculum, and students who went on the achieve the highest marks at A-Level. In every case, I aim to make learning engaging and enjoyable, encouraging a positive attitude towards education.
My teaching approach combines discussion and direct instruction because, based on both my academic research and practical experience, both are important for deep learning. Through open and engaging conversations, I can better understand my students' strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to build on what they already know and explore new ideas together. By balancing clear guidance with collaborative problem-solving, I help my students gain the confidence they need to tackle more challenging topics.
I believe that effective tutoring also involves building a strong connection with the student. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and developing a love for learning. Ultimately, my goal is to provide each student with a personalised learning experience that encourages both academic success and personal growth.
My Experience
I have worked in education for over 5 years, in a wide variety of roles. Most recently, I have been working as a Private Tutor for GCSE Maths, and with a student at a prep school who aims to improve his written English.
Previously, I was a classroom Maths teacher in a large Secondary school, where I was recognised for the high quality of my lesson planning and my calm, engaging approach to education. I went on to become Subject Lead of Personal Development, before deciding to focus on tutoring.
In the past I have also worked as an SEN Teaching Assistant, during which time I worked with small groups or 1-to-1 with students with a variety of SEN diagnoses including dyslexia, ADHD, ASD/autism, and dyscalculia. With my patience and enthusiasm, I was able to support these students to grow enormously in confidence - multiple students went from refusing to partake in classwork to being star students in their classes.
My Qualifications
PGDE in Maths: Sheffield Hallam University.
MPhil in Psychology and Education: Cambridge University. 70/100 (Pass)
BA in Spanish and Arabic: Durham University. First Class Honours
A-Levels: Maths (A), French (A*), Spanish (A*), Art (A)
GCSEs: A*: English Literature, English Language, Maths, French, Spanish, Latin, Chemistry, Physics, Art; A: Geography

I have good availability throughout the week and will be as flexible as possible, but want to provide consistency for all of my tutoring clients.
