My Summary
About Me
Hi! I’m Alex. I am a Primary Education student at Edge Hill University with a passion for working with children. I’m dedicated, caring, and patient, and I love supporting children’s growth and happiness in a fun and safe environment. My degree has deepened my understanding of child development, helping me create nurturing and engaging activities for little ones of all ages.
I come from a large family, so babysitting my younger siblings and cousins has always been part of my life. Through these experiences, I’ve learned how to keep kids entertained, handle a variety of personalities, and stay calm and patient when challenges arise. Additionally, I have hands-on experience working in a primary school, where I support general classroom duties and assist children in their daily activities. This role has taught me invaluable skills for guiding children in both group and one-on-one settings.
To meet all safety requirements, I hold a valid enhanced DBS check. I’m available to work evenings, as well as all day on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, making it easy to work around your family’s schedule. I am able to work fairly flexibly, there doesn't have to be set evenings each week.
I’d love the opportunity to help provide a positive, caring environment for your children! Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more.
Looking forward to meeting you and your family soon!
My Experience
Throughout my time working with children, I have gained a wealth of practical experience and developed a deep understanding of their needs, interests, and learning styles. Growing up in a large family, I began babysitting for my younger siblings and cousins at a young age. This experience taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and empathy when working with children, each with unique personalities and needs. I find it rewarding to create a safe, supportive environment where children feel understood and valued, and I bring this same energy into any new childcare role.
My academic journey has also equipped me with valuable insights into child development. I am currently pursuing a degree in Primary Education at Edge Hill University, which has expanded my understanding of effective teaching practices and child psychology. Additionally, studying A-Level Sociology has profoundly shaped my approach to working with children. Sociology has taught me about the importance of creating inclusive and respectful spaces where all children, regardless of background, can thrive. I have come to understand the subtle ways students from certain socioeconomic or ethnic backgrounds may feel overlooked in educational settings and have gained insights into addressing these disparities to foster a sense of belonging. These perspectives have deepened my commitment to creating equitable and supportive learning environments for all children.
I have been fortunate to gain hands-on experience in a primary school setting, where I volunteered in a Year One classroom. This role has allowed me to expand my skills by working closely with children during a key developmental stage. I’ve led small-group phonics sessions, helping children who are just beginning to develop literacy skills. By incorporating techniques like ‘robot arms’ to break down words, I create a lively and engaging atmosphere that keeps the children focused and motivated. Working with these young learners has shown me the importance of making learning interactive and accessible, particularly for those who may need extra support.
Through my experience in educational settings, I have developed skills in classroom management, organisation, and teamwork. I understand the importance of creating engaging learning activities that capture children’s attention, especially for those who need additional support. Working alongside teaching staff has also shown me the importance of effective communication and coordination, particularly when handling unexpected challenges, to ensure a safe and positive experience for every child.
My Qualifications
Although I do not hold formal childcare qualifications, my academic background and hands-on experience provide me with a strong foundation in child development and education. I have A-Levels in Biology (B), Chemistry (B), and Sociology (A), which have equipped me with a broad understanding of both the scientific and social aspects of child development and well-being. My knowledge of Sociology, in particular, has deepened my understanding of how children thrive in inclusive and respectful environments. Currently, I am studying Primary Education at Edge Hill University, where I am expanding my skills and knowledge in child psychology, effective teaching methods, and classroom management. In addition to my studies, I have also gained valuable hands-on experience caring for younger siblings and cousins, which has taught me how to support, engage, and nurture children in a positive, safe environment. Together, my studies and practical experience ensure I bring a wealth of knowledge and a strong, well-rounded perspective to any childcare role.
