My Summary
About Me
I love creating stories in a range of mediums including singing, acting, painting and puppetry– I have also led puppet making activities with school groups so I could teach your children to make their own! I enjoy adapting activities to individual interests and have in the past helped create little musicals, learned a child’s dance choreography to an opera, and filmed stop-motion shorts based on comics a child had drawn. I look forward to getting to know your children and I have a lot of experience coming up with creative ways to spend play time.
I am very nurturing and like to take the time to learn how best I can support children. I have experience communicating with children who have higher support needs, in a way that is most comfortable for them. Being able to support children and help them build confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of childcare for me.
I also really enjoy spending time in nature and excel at facilitating safe and respectful exploration of the outdoors. I know lots of camping songs and games that encourage children to ask questions about their surroundings.
My Experience
In my most recent nannying job, I looked primarily after a little boy, aged 13 months when I started. When they weren’t at school I also cared for his 2 brothers, ages 7 and 9. My responsibilities included bottle feeding, weaning, putting him down for his nap, cooking meals, changing his nappy, handling bath times and bedtimes, taking him and his brothers on trips and organising enrichment activities. I worked for around 18 hours per week for a year.
For a second family, I cared for 2 girls ages 2 and 4 year, and occasionally the friends they would bring over. My responsibilities included reading, helping with homework, cooking meals and preparing snacks, putting the 2 year old down for her nap and waking her up afterwards, handling bed times, organising play activities and taking trips outdoors.
Neither families owned TVs so I am well equipped to organise screen-free enrichment activities.
While working as a neuroscience lab assistant, my responsibilities included explaining studies to child participants and their carers, ensuring participants’ comfort and safety, and babysitting siblings while their carers chaperoned studies.
I have also worked as a Summer camp counsellor at a camp for children and adults aged 19-30, with disabilities and medium to high support needs. My responsibilities included learning their triggers, how to avoid and best handle them, creating a schedule catered to individual support needs while also being suitable for the group as a whole, preparing cabins for new groups of campers, ensuring the kitchen was aware of food restrictions while eating on-site, packing and cooking food for campers when camping away from the site, ensuring campers’ comfort and safety on hikes, and acting as a mandated reporter. I worked all day and overnight, 6 days a week for 6 weeks.
My Qualifications
I have an undergraduate certificate in neuroscience, I’m first aid trained and received my Crisis Prevention Institute Nonviolent Intervention certification.
