About Me
My name is Sophie and on 15th January I gave birth to my daughter at home and have been loving navigating the new world and chaos of motherhood in these early weeks.
We are owners of an old VW campervan (currently quite neglected with a newborn!) which I am slowly improving, mostly repairing with advice from my Dad (my daughters Dada). We plan to go on lots of camping trips with our daughter over the years. I definitely value the messy play and outdoors approach as I would love my daughter to learn through the natural world.
Despite this more wild and natural feel, both myself and my husband work in TV and travel into London. My husband works full time and works hybrid, with less days at home and more in the office. I work as a freelance Editor and what I will be doing each week depends on the project - sometimes I can be working on a programme for a few months, sometimes I have more adhoc work that changes week to week. There is also some hybrid working for me but this is project dependent.
Whilst I am currently on mat leave, I am not entirely sure what returning to work will look like as I try to balance it with the needs of my daughter and being present at home - my ideal scenario is more days working remotely from home, and my hours becoming more flexible so I can work around the childcare that we manage to get - be that starting earlier or working some hours later in the evening once she is in bed.
My Requirements
Our current plan is to be committed to three fixed full time days of childcare for September to December 2025, with the possibility of needing additional childcare for the other two days of the week when I am confirmed on work. When I'm working, I will more often be working the full five days so this requirement is likely to be regular than not.
From January 2026, we will be more comfortable committing to five full time days of childcare whether I am working or not, as our eligibility for government funding goes up to 30 hours.
