My Summary
Small Setting, Big Heart: Tailored Early Years Education & Care Inspired By Nature, Curiosity & Calm
About Me
At Ten Acre, I offer a unique, nurturing environment for children aged 2 to 5, grounded in nature, calm, and curiosity. Inspired by the principles of Hygge and the Curiosity Approach, my setting blends the warmth of a home-from-home atmosphere with the richness of child-led, exploratory learning.
I have a small, cosy cottage located in the rural area between Dunkerton and Englishcombe with a large outdoor space and a paddock and barn area. We are close to the Odd Down Park and Ride - convenient for those travelling to and from the City Centre.
Children are free to wonder, play, and grow at their own pace—whether it’s through woodland walks, sensory outdoor play, or quiet moments of meditation. Our days are slow, meaningful, and deeply connected to nature and the seasons.
I lead a plant-based, term-time only setting, offering optional holiday clubs subject to availability. With a strong focus on emotional well-being, creativity, and independence, I provide small group care where each child is truly seen and valued.
I live with my husband and two teenage daughters.
Run by a qualified and experienced Early Years teacher and OFSTED Registered Childminder, Ten Acre is a space where early childhood is honoured, curiosity is celebrated, and memories are made.
My Experience
I’m an experienced Early Years educator with a lifelong passion for supporting children’s development through calm, nurturing, and inspiring environments. Over the years, I’ve worked across a range of roles in early years settings—including nursery, pre-school, and as a Deputy Manager and Early Years Teacher—gaining deep insight into child-led learning and inclusive practice.
I’ve also worked as a BSL (British Sign Language) teacher, supporting children, families, and staff to use signing as a powerful tool for communication—particularly for preverbal and neurodivergent children. I believe strongly in respectful, responsive relationships and the power of connection in early childhood.
Alongside my professional experience, I’m also a mother to two teenage daughters, whom I home educated through their primary years. This has shaped my philosophy and strengthened my belief in personalised, interest-led learning.
Now, I’ve come full circle and returned to childminding—a role I held earlier in my career and one that allows me to offer a truly home-from-home experience. I’ve created a peaceful, nature-inspired setting where children are free to explore, play, and grow at their own pace, supported by the values of Hygge and the Curiosity Approach.
My aim is to provide a warm, nurturing space where children feel safe, seen, and valued—and where their natural curiosity is truly celebrated.
My Qualifications
I am an OFSTED Registered Childminder with Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS), a level 6 qualification. I also have a degree in Early Years, Childhood & Youth Studies and Sociology as well as the industry standard NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning & Education. I am trained in Makaton and have a solid foundation of good A-Levels & GCSE’s. I am committed to ongoing professional development (CPD) and regularly take part in high-quality training to ensure my practice remains reflective, current, and child-centred. Areas of recent focus include: Hygge in the Early Years, SEND and inclusive practice, safeguarding and child protection, behaviour as communication, and emotion coaching.
