Hello! I’m Jessie, a passionate and patient tutor newly based in London, originally from Cape Town. I hold a degree in Theatre-Making (writing, directing, and performing), which I completed with distinction, and I achieved 7/7 distinctions (80%+) in my final IEB Year 12 exams - the South African private school equivalent of straight A/A* grades at UK A-level.
My creative background allows me to approach tutoring with energy and adaptability. I have especially loved performing in plays created for young audiences - they have been some of my most joyful and memorable experiences. In my spare time I practise Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, cook meals to share with loved ones, and love a good book!
My Experience
I have prior tutoring experience working with underprivileged students in South Africa, many of whom spoke English as a second language. I helped improve their confidence and ability in both Maths and English, and I loved seeing them grow more capable and enthusiastic over time. I have also worked as an au pair, where I regularly assisted with homework, projects, and oral presentations.
I am especially strong in English, Drama/Theatre Studies, Biology, Maths, and general academic mentoring.
My Qualifications
- Bachelor of Theatre-Making with Distinction (Focus: Writing, Directing, Performing)
Completed at the University of Cape Town where I was the only graduate to receive distinctions in both the theoretical and practical component of the degree.
- IEB Matric with 7 Distinctions (80%+)
Subjects: English, Maths, Biology, Geography, Drama, Afrikaans, Life Orientation
Equivalent to straight A/A* grades at UK A-level.

As I am a performer, my days are relatively free and flexible. If I have rehearsals or performances, they will likely take place in the evening.
