My name is Joyce, im a 36 year old British female, living in Kent. Im a self employed Holistic Therapist, and Yoga instructor, who has very strange working hours- and therefore many gaps in the week which could certainly be put to good use! Prior to setting up my business, I worked for many years as a nanny, and in the field of childcare. I have always enjoyed working with children- and for many years before the pandemic, I taught Yoga and Mindfulness at a junior school in south London (year 1 and 2), which i loved (it was very cute!). I’ve also recently written a yoga/mindfulness book for children too, which I’m hugely heartfelt about and is a side passion of mine. I had many years of experience working within the childcare system, and have always loved working with children. With a background of working in the Health and Social Care system, i always enjoyed a caring role. I studied Psychology at University, focusing very much on child development, as well as mental health. During my University years, i worked for an agency covering various different work environments: hospitals, care homes, children's homes, day-centes, night shifts etc. This acted as the foundation of my experience. After University i continued to work permanently in the Social Care/ mental Health system for 2 years, as well as spending some time travelling across Asia and India. I also spent 3 months living in Ghana, volunteering as a Teacher for a local charity run school, having full responsibility for a class of 20 children. I also helped out at a local orphanage in the afternoons. In addition to this, i spent 6 weeks volunteering at an orphanage in Mexico, working with the same company. This gave me a lot of inspiration to work with children for my career.
When I moved to London 9 years ago, I worked for a year in a highly established private children's nursery (Cavendish Lodge, Streatham). This was a lovely experience, and gave me so much knowledge and experience that I was able to take forward into my various Nanny roles. Although I am no longer working as a Nanny on a full time basis, I would love to still use some of my free time for ad hoc/ part time daycare and regular nannying/ babysitting. I drive too, which makes things easy.

My Experience

Spent a year working at Cavendish Lodge nursery, following key points of EYFS (early years foundation scheme). Such as: creative, numeracy, literacy, understanding of the world, problem solving and reasoning, social/emotional/physical development etc. I was then able to apply this to my nanny roles. i worked with two families in total. One child was under two when I started, the other was a little older, at 4. My duties have been to prepare food and healthy snacks, assist with some household duties, general play, create and apply range activities/messy play, accompany the child to various groups such as music/ gymboree classes, as well as general day to day personal care, changing nappies & having fun!

My role as a nursery assistant involved assisting with the flow of the daily routine, such as implementing activities according to the daily planning, supervising meal times, personal care i.e nappy changing, toilet training, teeth brushing, cleaning to high standard of hygiene, general play and also updating paper work (writing observations on the development of my key children).

I also have some very invaluable Aunty experience! With my niece now being 6, and my nephew 9. I have been very involved with both of them since birth, and helped Nanny for my nephew on a weekly basis when he was 1.
