About Me
Hello, my name is Shirleen Pace, and welcome to Shirleen’s Little Friends!
I am an Ofsted registered childminder, qualified since 2007. My husband Keith is registered with Ofsted as my assistant.
Keith and I have been together for 22 years, married for 11. We live in Winyates East in a 3-bedroom mid terraced house with one of my daughters aged 24. She is newly qualified Maths Teacher. We have 2 granddaughters aged 8 and 7. Our eldest daughters sometimes visit with the grandchildren so more fun for everybody!
We have a fabulous outdoor space which is one large block paved area which allows the children to enjoy all year-round play. We have added some fun buntings, some animal related, alphabetical and numerical – which is Velcro so allows the children to experiment with the order of numbers. Also in the garden is a chalk board, lots of wind chimes and colourful decorations.
We have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 guinea pigs, which is situated at the back of the garden. The children can handle the guinea pigs under supervision and help with their daily feeding and hygiene. There is a large selection of outdoor toys including cosy coupe cars, scooters, space hoppers, large playhouse, see-saws and a large climbing frame with a slide!
During the summer months we have a large gazebo and or parachute which covers most of the paved area to protect the children from the sun if needed. We have a large paddling pool (which looks like the bottom of the ocean!), an inflatable ball fountain, and sand and water tables. We have a collection of foam jigsaw mats which are laid around the slide. The children can also sit at the picnic bench for lunch/snacks during the better months.
We enjoy using the garden as much as possible, going out for walks to feed the ducks or to the local park. Maybe even splash in a muddy puddle or two! We like to take the children to a wacky warehouse 1 day a week, however this is circumstantial on a week to week basis.
We like to have fun indoors too! Things such as painting, role play, construction, crafts activities, cooking, play doh, decorating biscuits/cakes and anything else you can think of to keep the children’s imaginations churning. Sometimes we even indulge in a little Baby Shark or Little Baby Bum!
We absolutely love working with children, it is such a rewarding profession. To see a child that you care for reaching milestones, learning the alphabet or even numbers 1-10, it is such a great feeling, to share with their Mummy or Daddy what they did that day it gives us such joy.
In 2009 I was proudly selected as a finalist for Nursery World's Childminder of the Year. I was 1 of 5 to be shortlisted throughout all of England. One of my proudest achievements to date!

My Experience
I have been a mother for 27 years and a childminder for 17.
I have helped in Mother & Toddler groups in Shirley & Bordesley Green. I have worked as a volunteer within a school in Kingshurst (Birmingham) working with 3-4yr olds.
Whilst I was at College during 2003-2005 I attended several placements within nurseries/schools with varying ages from birth to 8yr olds.
I became a Childminder in April 2007 and had my first Ofsted inspection in April 2008 - I was graded GOOD which I was very pleased with. My Ofsted report can be viewed by pressing on the link available.
I was last inspected by Ofsted in May 2022 and was graded a GOOD again, my inspection reports can be viewed by clicking on the links or by request.
I am experienced with babies as I have cared for a 6 week old up until she went to school.
As well as childminding I have also been Chairman for Bright Stars Childminding Group, the committee met regularly to offer peer to peer support through planning workshops, training, fun activity sessions and information sharing evenings.
I was also Secretary for the West Midlands Regional Committee for Pacey, as a committee we organised Forums and workshops for Pacey members to attend.
I enjoyed being a volunteer for the above roles as enabled me to meet other childminders from around the country and visit other parts of the country, attend exciting workshops and stay up to date with changes to the EYFS/Curriculum etc.

We currently have Full & Part time spaces available.

We currently take children to Tenacres First School & Collect at the end of the day and also Ipsley Middle School.
We are registered to offer funding for 9 month, 2, 3 & 4 year olds.
We also have some children attend before and after school.
Our Hours of work are: 7.00am - 6.00pm

I found Shirleen through this site as my little boy was not settling at a previous childminders. He used to come home and throw horrendous tantrums and his previous childminder did have problems coping with him. Within a week of Shirleen looking after him the tantrums stopped and he wanted to go to her house. She has a brilliant loving an no nonsense approach. My little man is always so happy when i collect him and Shirleen and her husband Keith always keep me updated on what he has done during his time there (good and bad!). I don't have to worry about his safety there and they really put the extra effort in with the children they look after especially Christmas when they decorate their whole hall. I would have no problems recommending her.
Overall
My daughter has been coming to shirleen since September 2011 and i can thoughly recommend her and her family as a prospective carer of your child.
I find that she is very caring and down to earth and feel that my daughter has the sort of care that i myself would provide if i didnt work. The homely environment is exceptionally friendly and is evident from the beaming smiles my daughter produces when she sees Shirleen or any of her family.
I feel that i wouldnt get this from a nursery where there would be alot more children to care for. She definately goes the extra mile for all of the children in her care. So glad that i found this website otherwise i wouldnt have found her as i hadnt a clue where to start looking for childcare.
