My Summary
About Me
All of my working life has been revolved around childcare. I have bought up four children of my own and whilst they were young I was a qualified childminder and also fostered. When my youngest child started school I then continued my career in a school setting working my way up to a position of a senior teaching assistant in a special needs school. I have a great passion for children and the care of children. As well as all my experience with special needs children, I have often worked with their siblings and have plenty of experience of working with babies and mainstream children.
My personal interests are family life, being around children. In my spare time I enjoy to be outdoors gardening and also enjoy socialising.
My two daughters are both nannies and I have greatly involved in their work
I have grandchildren of age8 and twins of 5 and have lots of experience of looking after thm
My Experience
I have been a Nanny for 5 years in four different positions. Age ranges of the children I have cared for are 4 months up to 11 with varying ages in between. My first role was a temporary 6 month role with a baby and a 3 year old. I had nursery duties which involved taking the 3 year old to nursery and weaning the baby. I loved doing activities with them such as art and craft, messy play, cooking and walks in woods etc. I was sad when this role finished and have stayed in contact with the family.
My second role was a permanent role until the family relocated. I was with them for 3 years and we are now firm friends. The children were school age when I started a girl who started reception and a boy age 6. When I left they were 8 and nearly 11. My role was to take children to school then for the day I would do light house keeping duties and batch cooking for the family. Run errands and was lucky had some free time. Pick up children and take to various after school activities play dates etc.
My third role was a maternity cover for a girl age 4 and a boy 2. This was a years cover .I already knew this family as I was covering my own daughters Maternity leave. I still see the family. My role here was again nursery duties.
My next role was back with my first family who now have added to their family and have a 3rd child. The children are now 8 5 and 2. My role here is nursery duties. My role is finished here due to a relocation by the family.
My current role which has been for the last 3 years is within a small pre school Nursery. Age range from 18 months to reception age. I currently work as part of a team and do various activities with the children I also do lots of observations around the EYFS guidelines. I adore all messy play activities and love finding new ideas that encourage learning through play.
Bedelsford School Job Title Senior teaching assistant Year: 1994-2012
During my time at Bedelsford I have worked in all classes aged from 2-18 years. The school is a special needs school for children with profound, multiple, medical and physical difficulties. I started as supply and quickly became a permanent member where I worked my way up to the position of a senior TA. Whilst working at the school I gained my NVQ 3 qualification in childcare and learning development. I have been on numerous courses and extremely knowledgeable in signing Makaton, speech and language, physio and medical care to name but a few. I have also dealt with children that have suffered with epilepsy and many allergies, which has taught me to be able to use an epipen. My skills also include the feeding of children with difficulties in being able to feed. I can tube feed children as well. I have worked alongside a multi- disciplinary team.
Childminder/foster carer Year: 1984-1994
During my time as a childminder I had sole charge care of all the children that I cared for. The age of the children were between 3 months up to 12 years. Some of the children came from difficult backgrounds and were introduced through social services. Some of these children had challenging behaviour. My duties as a childminder included ensuring that the children were in a safe and happy environment. They all had aged related activities to do in the home as well as taking them out and about to various clubs such as playgroups, structured activities and days out. I also made sure that each child according to their needs had a varied, healthy diet.
In 1992 my husband and myself became foster carers helping many children and their parents in all aspects of childcare and their individual circumstances.
