About Me

Hello! My name is Dione, but most people who know me call me Dee.

I have been working in the field of education for ten years, and I would like to think I have an energetic teaching style. Within these ten years, I have worked with a varied age range of students/ learners, which uses the majority of modern teaching styles.

I love working with children and families with SEN as I feel this is my vocation, I do not feel I could work within any other field of work. I believe in the need to empower the current skills that all children have and build on them to support their future development. I am looking for my next challenge, and I wish to be of help as much as possible.

I believe in making lessons fun yet relatable for the learner by including the themes of their interest while breaking down various academic skills into bite-sized portions that would become a staple sequence of skills used in their life. There will be references to e-books, which will be accessible through learning platforms, and work will be set from it for further support.

My Experience

My experience has been a cross-section of various roles, with some roles requiring the transference of skills from numerous positions. My most relevant experience has been teaching the British National curriculum online up to KS3 for children with SEN diagnoses. This has been a challenge, but it has been the most rewarding position yet. I have been working in this role for over two years.

Online education does require imagination and new methods of engagement, but the thing that underpins all education is the need for the information to be relatable while fun. I have been able to retain a number of my students who I had worked with from over two years ago when I made the transition, all because the lessons maintain the need for the same level of high expectation as in a classroom, but most of all the learning resources can be accessed at their convenience for further study but are also easy to use.

My experience is as follows:

As an SEN Teacher, this was aimed at the management of the children in the class and being able to support the children with any academic development.

SEN Tutor: I love this role as it is about the persistence of education and that it can foster positive practice in all children in their ability to ask questions while also teaching them the skills they need for their future. Meanwhile, working with a child or young adult on a 1:1 basis is a child-centred approach, in which there is the modification of interventions according to the needs of your child. Within this role, I have been able to help students learn or acquire the knowledge of the following practices: emotional regulation, preparations for assessments according to capability, organisation of working material in work folders that detail the application of approaches/interventions and quantifying information for charting development, maths skills, colourful semantics to aid speaking fluency, teaching inference at the most basic level for English language work, comprehension - reading skills for those who are learning to acquire language and onwards when to communicate their needs as well as appropriate behaviour according to school expectations.

SEN and well-being support Advisor: There is a lot to process for both the children and the parents of children with SEN, and this has allowed me to work with parents in hearing and helping them manage their emotions on the situation. I can only advise as I am on a counselling course. I have been able to help parents understand the roots of their child's behaviour, as well as aid them in being able to express their emotions in the daily challenges that they may face.

As a former SEN Tutor working in schools directly, I am keen to still provide support and help for children and families who need additional support or where the educational institute of school is no longer feasible for them due to an array of circumstances. I am aware of the current levels of assessment for children, and I often use this as a guideline and instil the skills they need to be able to answer the questions in these national assessments so that they would be able to ascertain an assessment score which can be measured according to the UK school database systems for end year assessment so there is an opportunity for linear progression in academic development.

I am honestly looking for the next challenge to be able to provide help, hope and support for you and your child so that you can see that education is not about the location but rather about how we can engage your child to aid them with the achievement of their next milestone.
