About Me
Dear family,
I appreciate how daunting it can be choosing the correct childcare to suit you and your child's needs.
My name is Karen, and my career has always been in childcare.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to work with children. My school and college qualifications were geared towards this.
After my initial career in childcare, I decided to become a childminder soon after my first daughter was born - she is now 27 I also have a 25 year old daughter and a very supportive husband!
We are fortunate to have a well-equipped playroom in my house, where the children have their own space to choose toys to play with. I provide a variety of craft activities, puzzles, construction toys, books, role-play etc. for a wide range of ages and abilities.
There is a large garden for outdoor play. Bikes, cars, sand and water among other things. Oakmere park is also nearby, where we often visit the ducks!
We have a weekly routine, which includes attending toddler groups.
I offer a stimulating home-from-home environment. My wish is to make the children I care for feel safe, happy and secure.
I have always held good relationships with the parents and children in my care.
My Experience
My previous experience covers various child care roles - Working in a day nursery which had 4 rooms for different age groups, I enjoyed working in them all during my time there.
I left the nursery to venture to Canada for a year, to Nanny for a family in Vancouver.
After returning I continued to Nanny for several years, enjoying the progression of the children's development. Two of the girls I cared for, later became our bridesmaids!
After having my first daughter, I decided to base myself in Potters Bar, and become a childminder. This has fitted well with our family life and we have formed strong bonds with the children I have cared for in the last 24 years.
Post Covid I returned to working in a nursery, being a key worker based in the two to three year old room. I enjoyed providing fun and educational activities to enhance learning and social skills.
After two enjoyable years working in a nursery setting I felt it was time to go back to childminding where I can provide small group care.
As I am returning to childminding my recent Ofsted inspection took place without any children present so I could only receive a ‘Met’ grading, but my previous inspection still also stands.
My Qualifications
I am a Registered Childminder, inspected by OFSTED and have my CRB check.
I am NNEB qualified. and have the NVQ3 qualification in childcare and development.
First-Aid and Safeguarding courses are compulsory, and renewed every 3 years.
I am committed to the EYFS, and have completed the latest training.
Other certificates include, Food hygiene, Allergy awareness and Communication and language
I keep up to date with training and enrol on courses I feel will be beneficial to my setting and children in my care.
