About Me
Hi, my name is Nickki and I am a Registered childminder with the Care Inspectorate. My Childminding business is called Twoshoes. We have two great children, Noah, aged 21 and Aoifé aged 17.
We also have a rag doll cat called Mushu.
We are a fun, happy home! We live near Musselburgh train station. We have an enclosed garden. We enjoy gardening - growing own vegetables,plenty of outdoor games, indoor games, dressing up, arts and crafts/messy play, books, musical instuments and baking-generally having fun!
Trips out are a regular occurance e.g. museum, library, play groups, Toddler groups etc.
I follow Covid guidelines to keep us all safe and I am fully vaccinated!
I spend a lot of time out doors- whatever the weather-muddy puddles included!
I will include a parent/carers request where possible. Children always have their say also on what they are interested in and in what they like to do!
Meals provided on request.
My Experience
Along with raising our two children, I have many years experience working with children aged from three months to sixteen years.I was an au-pair in Germany for six months looking after three children - ages 1-5.
I have worked with children in care for ten years and felt the time was right for a change. Before this I worked in Mental Health for five years. I have now been a Childminder for 12 years and have been enjoying each day, especially seeing the positive changes over time with the children I have been looking after. I can support parents/carers with their children, home from home.
I had an Inspection at the end of July 2016,and I have received Grade 6, excellent, with no recommendations.
I have had my latest Care Inspection in July 2022, and received Grade 6, excellent with no recommendations.
My Qualifications
I have the following qualifications:
-Introduction to Child minding.
-Registered with the Scottish Care Commission.
-First-Aid for Children and Babies.
-Food Hygiene Certificate.
-Full Disclosure Scotland.
-Full Clean Driving licence.
-Diploma in Social Care.
-Child Protection Training
-Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC).
-Infection,Prevention and Control training.
-Building the Ambition.
-Tears and Tantrums.
I passed my HNC in Childhood Practice- June2021 ( qualified Nursery Nurse, EYP).
I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling at Edinburgh University- May 2022.
My Availability
Monday -Friday.
Morning session: 8am-1pm.
Afternoon session:1pm-5.30pm
Full day:8am-5.30pm.
Care over the school holidays is available by prior arrangement.
I can pick up/drop off to Campie and Stoniehill schools.

We had the pleasure of working with Nicki over two days for a wedding weekend. Our son is 17 months old and this was his first experience with a babysitter he didn’t know. The first night she made him feel comfortable and did a wonderful job putting him happily to sleep. The next day she brought him some toys to play with! They went on walks, she read to him, played with him, sang him songs, and even taught him an animal noise! We checked in at one point and he had no problem separating from us to stay with Nickki. It just made us feel so comfortable knowing that our son felt safe and happy with her. We live in the US, but if we ever find ourselves back in Edinburgh we will request Nickki’s help again!

It was so important to us that our son went to a childcare setting that was loving, gentle and child-led, and we are so thankful we found Nickki. She treats my son like he's one of her own family.
Every day activities are child-led, depending on what the children are interested in or what they feel like doing that day. Lots of art, games, walks, trips to the park and pre-covid times; trips to the museum which my son loved. She has helped my son with difficult feelings from toddlerhood to now almost school age and tries to help him understand his emotions through stories and talking things through.
He clearly adores Nickki, and I'm sad that he won't be able to keep being looked after her as we're about to move out of the town.
We couldn't recommend Nickki enough, and you can rest assured that your child will thrive in her home :)

Nickki is the most wonderful, loving, caring childminder you could meet. She looked after my daughter from 8 months old til she started school, and my son from age 5 months until we moved house when he was almost 3, so we had 6 continuous years of Nickki's care.
She cares so much about the children in her care, and has their best interests as a priority. She treats them as they are her own children, the house is full of love and fun. She does a lot of child led activities, spends time outdoors with them, walks to the beach, visits to the harbour, takes them to playgroups, bookbug sessions at the library and meets up with other childminder friends so the children in her care have lots of opportunities for socialisation and making friends. She does art activities, jigsaws, lots of games, and reading stories.
Her lovely home becomes your children's home, it's a warm and welcoming home from home, and the children thrive and flourish in her care.
Moving house was a real wrench for us, for the main reason that we were leaving Nickki behind! Thank you Nickki for 6 wonderful years, we miss you!!

I went back to work quite early (my son was 5 months old), so it was important to me that he have one regular carer. As Nickki had the best ratings and reviews by far, she was the obvious choice, and when we met I felt confident that she would be a safe and happy place for him.
He has now been with Nickki for 3 (rather speedy!) years and in that time she has been just wonderful and very supportive.
My son enjoys playing with the other children in her care and having fun with Nickki's children too. Her home is very welcoming and clean. There are daily and weekly routines. Nickki asks the children what they would like to do and they are always out and about.
Nickki is very communicative and will give informal and more formal updates.
I can't recommend Nickki highly enough - we've been so lucky to have her.

I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about leaving my son to go back to work but Nickki made the whole experience a million times easier for us both. She was so patient and understanding and always kept in touch with me throughout the day (when she could) to put me at ease by sending photos of my smiley little boy. I couldn't recommend her enough.
Her home is lovely, always clean and such a welcoming environment. My son absolutely loves going, when I drop him off he can't get away from me quick enough to go and play with the other boys and girls! The kids are always out and about, rain or shine. Nickki always makes sure their days are filled and varied and incorporates the children into making decisions for the day.
She treats all the children like she would her own and I have never doubted the care she gives for a second. Her own children are lovely and interact brilliantly with the other kids in her care. My son especially loves her daughter who is such a natural with the kids and always has him laughing and smiling.
Thank you for everything Nickki. You are wonderful!

Can't fault the service with Twoshoes at all. We found it difficult settling our son into a nursery but Nickki was there to help every step of the way in supporting both our child, and us parents into her care. We can't thank Nickki enough for the progress our child made (and me) whilst in her care.

I cannot recommend Nickki highly enough. We couldn’t ask for anyone better to take care of our son. Our son is treated like a member of the family and I honestly feel like Nickki takes care of him and treats him as she would one of her own children. She goes above & beyond what I would have expected and our son loves going there every day. The kids experience a range of activities. Nickki takes them to morning playgroups, to the park, on walks, and there is a lovely selection of toys and games at her house. She also does a lot of arts and crafts with them, they read books, and play with musical instruments. It’s amazing to see how far our son has come on with his art, his speech and the things he is learning while being in Nickki’s care (he is only 1.5).
Nickki also gives lovely weekly updates by email about what our son has been up to during the week with her. We love receiving these and the amount of time and effort Nickki puts into them is incredible. All of our son’s grandparents live far away and they especially love reading the updates.
All in all, I think Nickki Is a fantastic childminder and I honestly feel as though I’m leaving my son with family. She really has found her calling!

My 5 year old daughter & 6 year old son have just finished up with Nickki after 2 fantastic years..not through choice but due to them starting school. I cannot recommend Nickki highly enough, she has become not just a childminder but a family friend too and my children will really miss spending time with her and her family.
She made them feel welcome from day one and her calm and fair nature has been a great influence on my boisterous pair!
Nickki is great at asking the children what they enjoy doing and nurturing this - my daughter especially loves arts and crafts which they do a lot of, but also balanced out with outdoor play and trips to the park or indoor fun in poor weather.
Nickki does great monthly updates by email for each child and always adds pictures of what they have been up to. She also celebrates their birthdays with cake and a wee party..something the kids always enjoy!
I have found the last 2 years to be a much better alternative to the private nursery we previously used, the kids have thrived in a caring family environment and from the brilliant one to one care Nickki gives.

We have used Nickki on a full-time basis as a childminder for our wee girl, Jasmine for three and a half years. We have been more than delighted with the care and nurturing that Nickki has provided. Jasmine has been a very shy baby and toddler and has always needed a lot of support, Nickki has given this support the entire time and now we are so pleased, Jasmine is a confident and happy little girl. I don't think we could have asked for a better beginning for her start in life. We will be eternally grateful to Nickki for everything she has done.
I feel I must mention the monthly updates you get too, these are brilliant and provide you with all the information on what your child has been up to that month. She marks milestones and lets you know of any problems or achievements. I've kept every one and will show Jasmine one day when she's bigger, they make lovely reading.
Jasmine was welcomed in to their home, I was confident in leaving her and Jazzy is now more like family. Nickki always has different activities planned and has taken them all to different groups over the years such as playgroup, bookbugs, etc. They have lots of fun with imaginative play which Jasmine loves and many crafts, puzzles, toys, etc. are always on hand. The kids are always out and about too, or in the garden, they discuss nature, colours, numbers, and also have heaps of fun.
Nickki throws a party for each tots Birthday with her kids and the other kids in her care, this is a big deal and makes the kids feel so special. I could rant on about many more positive attributes but my honest feeling to sum it up is that Nickki has found her calling and it's clear to all how much she loves it and just how good at it she is.

Our son Peter has been with Twoshoes for just over a year a half now. Thanks to Nickki's calm and loving approach he took very little time to settle in and seems to continue to enjoy coming there every morning.
There is a wide range of activities and toys– both indoors and outdoors for kids to play. Outings are a regular thing too and Peter thoroughly enjoys going to soft plays, parks, museums, beaches, shows, play groups and many many more.
Nickki's professionalism is outstanding - she has built an excellent relationship with both children and parents and there is no doubt she’s giving 100% into her work. She always goes the extra mile to ensure that Peter is entertained, stimulated and above all well cared for.
We’re very pleased with the level of care and professionalism and would definitely recommend Twoshoes to anyone who is looking for safe, loving and stimulating environment for their children.
