My Summary
About Me
Ever since I can remember I wanted to work with children. I became a big sister just before I turned four years old, meeting my sister for the first time is my earliest and favourite memory; I fondly remember helping my mum change nappies, learning how to make bottles, and reading picture books to my little sister, I found my calling early. Over time being the best big sister possible for my sister turned to helping to care for my brother when he was born, then gradually over the years I started to babysit my siblings and the neighbours’ children. I became the neighbourhood go-to babysitter, known for my love of story time and creating imaginative play for my charges.
Over the years I have been a nanny, a youth worker, a volunteer, and a TA, but going to university was my biggest learning curve when working with children. The official name of my degree is BA Therapeutic Communications and Therapeutic Occupations, it’s a complicated name and easy to misunderstand, but what I boil it down to is the mental development of children and what factors can affect it. I learnt how important play can be, how safeguarding isn’t just for the children but for the adults who work with them too, and that sometimes the simplest gestures are the ones that can shape critical moments in a child's life.
I have a wide range of interests that I want to include in my future roles, such as my love for classical civilisations and museums, the theatre, and travelling to new places (both in and outside of Britain).
For the last eight years, I have been working in admin job, seemingly the furthest thing from childcare possible, but it has taught me some valuable lessons that I plan to incorporate into my future in childcare, such as how to find the calmness in the hectic and how important good multitasking skills are when organising multiple teams. As much as I have loved my time in admin, its time for me to go back to my calling.
