About Us
Kings Monkton is a co-educational independent school in the heart of Cardiff for children aged 3-18. Our Mission Statement is simple - Giving our children the future they deserve.
Our vision
At Kings Monkton School our vision is to create an inclusive community built upon a happy, innovative and outstanding learning environment.
Our mission and aims
At Kings Monkton School our mission is to prepare each pupil for life, enabling them to discover themselves and develop their gifts and talents; to fully realise their potential; and to achieve the highest standards of which they are capable. As a school therefore we aim:
• to offer outstanding teaching, providing an exciting, dynamic and challenging environment that inspires our pupils with intellectual curiosity and a love of learning
• to set high expectations so that all of our pupils achieve their very best and maximise their potential
• to celebrate the successes and achievements of all our pupils
• to enable all of our pupils to become confident, independent learners
• to provide a broad, balanced and rich curriculum that is accessible to every pupil
• to encourage each pupil, through the value we place on them, to grow in self-esteem, self-acceptance and confidence
• to care for, guide and support each pupil in their journey through the school
• to foster in our pupils a tolerance and respect for others and a deep concern to care for the environment
• to prepare our pupils to become the citizens of the future, able to make a strong contribution to society in a changing and challenging global world.
At Kings Monkton School we pride ourselves on being an inclusive, caring, and happy school with a tradition of hard work and lots of extra-curricular activities. We strive to ensure that all children reach their potential and get the best educational experience available.
The school is situated in the heart of Cardiff, the Capital of Wales, but has a village, family feel to it. Our spacious rooms, small classes and excellent facilities ensures that staff have the space, time and resources to ensure the very best for our children. We utilize our position within a capital city to provide an engaging, stimulating and varied experience for our children, using the best sporting, theatrical and educational venues the city has to offer.
A happy child is a successful child and happy school days depend on the very important partnership between pupils, staff and parents. A good relationship between home and school is vital to ensure a child’s success and happiness at school. The home-school agreement, features in the pupil’s planner for parents completion and information, underlines the important partnership between all the partners; and the parent portal gives direct on-line access between school and home.
Our Childcare Provision
Welcome to our school and the Kings Monkton Family. What makes us different is that we are entirely inclusive, ensuring that all pupils get the very best education according to their stage of learning, rather than their learning being prescribed by their chronological age. This means that our very brightest children are able to take their GCSEs and A-Levels up to two years early. We can also support children who have additional learning needs, helping them to develop and grow at their own pace and to excel in their specific areas of excellence. How do we do this? Our pastoral team is second to none and we know our children inside out. We deliberately maintain a small school so that we have the flexibility and the capacity to support our children individually, ensuring they get everything they need to learn, develop and grow. Small classes of up to just 15 pupils throughout the school ensure that our teachers can give every child the focus and attention they require in order to meet their full potential. The recipe is simple: outstanding teachers, excellent facilities and a caring and nurturing environment. The outcome is that our children complete their schooling prepared for the futures they deserve
Kings Monkton School is open from 08.00 in the morning for breakfast club and has after school provision that runs until 18.00. We offer a tailored curriculum to our pupils from Foundation to A Level.
French is taught from the age of 3 and we offer Spanish; Mandarin; Arabic and Welsh throughout the school. In the primary school pupils are taught mathematics and English (reading, writing and oracy) every morning, whilst the creative afternoon curriculum has a thematic approach. Pupils are taken out of school to interesting sites in and around Cardiff: to shops, parks, museums and castles, to name but a few, for enriched learning experiences. We also invite visitors to contribute to our pupils’ lessons. Activities that bring subjects to life ensure pupils are able to achieve their full potential, as learning and skills are retained much more effectively. We are a small family school, and children settle quickly and easily into our friendly and stimulating environment. Within the secondary school we focus on developing these skills further with over 21 options being available at GCSE and Post 16.
