My Summary
About Me
We have recently improved our setting facilities. Now we are open 6 days a week.
Shelley's Shorties is a family run childminding and business which is awaiting nursery status. We are located in the M7 area of Salford area. We provide childcare with a difference.
We have a lot of experience of working with children if all ages and abilities.
If you’d like to arrange a visit to see if we can meet your childcare needs you are welcome. We try to create a package of care to meet your families individual needs.
We open from 7am - 6:00pm Monday to Thursday and 7am to 5:30pm on a Friday. Saturday’s we open from 9:00am to 5pm. Later weekday nights Monday to Thursday are available on request.
We have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability. I have worked with children for well over for nearly 30 years.
We have 3 dedicated play areas. Are setting provides a wide range of toys, educational toys and books to help promote learning for children at all stages of their development. Alongside this we prepare the older daytime children for school.
Our setting has a very large open garden, which is enclosed where babies and children can play safely. It is important to us that all children have a good balance of outdoor time.
The setting follows the EYFS foundation curriculum where we focus on the 7 areas of learning and development through play through a number of different activities such as: arts and crafts, baking, messy play, phonics, stories and nursery rhymes.
Where possible we like to try to attend outdoor activities by going on outings to playgroups, forest schools, farms, libraries, local parks and soft play etc.
The setting provides a wrap around service for the following school's only: St Boniface's RC Primary School, St Sebastian’s, St George’s and Lower Kersal Primary.
During school holidays we provide holiday places for school children and provide action packed days, which include a number of different types of trips to keep children’s entertained.
We continually try to meet the families needs and not the other way round as we appreciate how hard it is to find the right childcare that will work with your individual requirements.
All childcare places are for a minimal of 3 days.
We accept all government funded places and student finance arrangements.
My Experience
I have many years of experience working with children in different settings. I started my working career volunteering for Bristol Mencap working with children with disabilities and from there progressed to a nursery assistant. After taking time out to look after raise my own children I returned to work as a keyworker in a children’s home, working with vulnerable children. I was later promoted to deputy manager and decided to leave to pursue my teaching career.
Whilst studying I was not only a tutor for primary and secondary school children. I also worked for the university in raising the aspirations of young people by helping them to raise their GCSE grades. Alongside this in university breaks I worked for an International Language school as an English teacher and as their Welfare Manager. Once I had finished my studies I worked for a number of nurseries and schools in the Bristol area.
Alongside all of this I have raised four of my own children. Two of which have had their own problems. My 20 year old was diagnosed with Asperger’s and behaviour problems and multiple allergies along with severe Asthma at the age of 3. With my support he has been able to stay in main stream education, has done well at his GCSEs and now attends engineering college in Bristol. I have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability.
My Qualifications
I am a holder of an upper 2:1 degree in education and P.G.C.E in Primary Education. I also hold certificates in Aquatics (swimming teacher), First Aid, Delivering the EYFS, Expectations of behaviour, Introduction to children diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder, Raising developmental concerns with parents, Safeguarding, Child protection, Supporting children's emotional well-being, Supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, and childminders count. I currently am learning sign language as I feel this can benefit me and the children I work with.

She took my son in mid Dec just before pandemic as nursery let us down completely. David turned out to be autistic and she took care of him as one of her own. I have amazing experience with her. She's been very kind, understanding and very helpful and my child was very happy with her. I couldn't thank her enough for all her help during that difficult time we had and helping me getting a place in school even if she didn't needed to.

My kids cried everyday while we were with her.
To think she is currently harassing me even after paying her for her services.
I have been charged 3times for one service who is really ridiculous and Even charged for T shirts which was never given.
Please stop the harassment,I am not owing you.

As a professional I would like respond to this review and say it I know it has been written out malace.
The review is completely fabricated based on extenuating circumstances. I hold physical proof of the children enjoying themselves at our setting has been sent to the all parent on multiple occasions.
All parents are sent reminders if their invoice is not paid in full and only when this happens. Late fees are attached if parents have outstanding amounts on their bills which are sent from our accoutant and only for this reason anyone ever be getting reminder emails. This is because they are automated and updated everyday a bill still has an outstanding amount on it.
Unfortunately this is not harassment but a way we have to keep track of outstanding amounts. Once bills are fully cleared these reminders stop, this has been explained.
This review has no reflection on us as a setting.
We are very good at ensuring our children are happy and their needs are meet at the setting and this is something we are regularly praised for.
Please look at other reviews and you before making any judgment based on this review.
It will be the only way you can get a true reflection and understand that we must be doing things right.
As childcare providers we are open to this type of review by showing our setting in a true light we hope you any future parent will be able to make an informed decision on us as a setting.
It’s sad for us but especially the children when they leave as we build bonds with the children and truly care about them.
Our children are well educated here and well looked after. We support a lot of children with additional needs and parents wait months for spaces.
Please feel free to ask me anything about our childcare and the services we provide.
Finally, I wish this parent like any other parent all the best.
My son settled from day one. The setting is very family oriented. Shelly will go out of her way to satisfy her clients. I am satisfied with the service provided.
My son actually want us to give shelly a 10star,that just shows how comfortable he is. There is zero tolerance of being unkind.

Shelly has been incredibly awesome in the way she takes care of my daughter. The activities are super educational and very engaging. All I can say is thank you to Shelly and her amazing family. My daughter settled in quickly at Shelly's place considering the change in environment as we just recently moved in to the UK. I feel very comfortable knowing my little girl is in a safe hand.

Thank you so much for your review it is very much appreciated and we love having her.
I have known Shelley for almost 5 years, in these 5 years she has looked after all my 3 children.
My children enjoyed going there, they had so much fun and enjoyed the food and the out door activities.
Shelley and her family are extremely kind and helpful. They have more than once gone out of their way to help me out.
Recently I approached her for the pick up and drop off service. Her and her family picked my children up from home to school everyday for 8 weeks free of charge whilst I recovered from my c section.
I Can not thank them enough.

My daughter seemed very settled.
Very family friendly setting that makes you feel like your going home from home.

This woman has let me down twice. She says she can watch my child then just stops all communication, I even changed the time my daughter gets out of school so she could pick her up. very disappointing, not even a text to say she can't do the job. Definitely don't waste your time.

Hi Savannah
I haven’t received your registration details back and thought you chose not to use our service. Not wanting to be pushy or to allow you your choice I have not contacted as truly felt you’d decided not to use us.
We never do not simply reply and had we had your details back would have been in touch.
I apologise that you feel like this but I’ve never not replied to you and in fact believed you didn’t want to use us.
I waited all weekend to receive the information and received nothing so clearly there is a cross of wires. I sent the information to your partners phone so maybe he didn’t realise it was there but sent it when I said I would send it so clearly there has been a mix up your end as I’ve not received anything back.
Shelley
I have been with this childcare provider since my son was 6 months and I cannot fault them on any level. I have recommended friends to them and they also have loved the family.
Nya-Shelley aka Shelley is excellent at communicating, often answering my messages either late at night or early in the morning. If there is a problem they don’t have the answer to they will seek help information to try and support me and other parents.
They have a Watsapp parent group to enable us as parents to communicate and support each other alongside any additional support Shelley and her family give.
They never close without good reason ans during the pandemic stayed open throughout, often working extremely long hours just to support the nhs and key-workers. They didn’t even take all their holiday and even cancelled one to support us as parents returning to work after the first lockdown when they truly needed a break. Nothing seems to much and they go above and beyond to support myself and other families at the setting.
They have helped me in more ways that you can imagine, when I was going through a hard time Shelley arranged with her accountant for me to spread my payment so that me and my son would not go without when really she could have just took my money and left me with nothing. She allowed me to get back on my feet after my partner walked out and left me. This services is about anything but money! Never ever have I once felt this service is only about the money and trying to get money for closures. The holiday they take are balanced and fair and they never just close for the sake of it.
Shelley is definitely a worrier as it’s as if she cannot put herself before the families she works for. They mean that much to her and her family and they treat us as a part of their extended family. When my cooker broke and I didn’t know how on earth I was going to replace it to my surprise Shelley and her family sent a brand new one to my house out of the blue. I still cannot thank them enough because I wasn’t entitled to help from anywhere due to the hours I work.
I know that during the pandemic they got all families together to support a family who tragically lost their dad due to Covid.
This is not your average childminding service, this is a childcare service that cares, loves and supports any family that joins them to the best of their ability. The children there are educated to an excellent standard. My child will be moving onto school in September after I didn’t send him due to seeing how much he had developed with Shelley and family that I decided to leave him until his reception year and I wasn’t the only parent that did this.
My child can speak two languages fluently and the things Shelley and her family have taught him are unreal. He can tell me shapes and how many sides, read, write his name, knows the months of the year, days of the week and so much more.
They take the children out and about, bake with them, do amazing arts and crafts, they regularly work on new topics. My friend saw my son out with the childminder and she rang me in the evening to to say she’d seen him but didn’t approach him whilst he was with Shelley and family. She was shocked that the staff don’t just sit down and have a chat when they are out but they actually play with the children to the point that children that aren’t part of the their group apparently seemed to want to join in.
If your depending on a service that is home from home and you want your child to feel like they are apart of a family then this is the childcare for you! I couldn’t recommend it enough. Your child will be well looked after and will probably end up like mine that often doesn’t want to leave in the evening.
When my son arrives there and he waves me good bye and is always happy to see the staff and his friends. He especially likes when it’s children’s birthdays as they always throw a tea party and my son has received some lovely gifts.
This is an outstanding service, the setting is always clean, tidy and well presented, the outdoor garden space is very large and my son loves nothing more to be in the garden with the family no matter what the weather they believe in old school fresh air and take things back to basics, you won’t see a child sat on a computer to keep them quiet here.
If you are depending on a service this is the one to choose as they are rarely late and will support you in the best way possible. They are in no way a difficult service to use but the complete opposite. If your looking for childcare I’d advise you to check this childminding service out for yourself as you won’t be disappointed!
